Albuquerque's Seed Library starts a garden with a packet and a question
The current program distributes seeds through Tony Hillerman Library and requested branch pickup, with growing guidance on each packet.

Before choosing a seed, look at the place it will grow. Sun, available water and planting space make a small garden a practical experiment rather than simply a shopping list. The ABQ-BERNCO Seed Library helps residents begin that experiment with free vegetable, herb and flower seeds.
A library card in good standing allows up to thirty seed packets per calendar year. The current program stores seeds behind the circulation desk at Tony Hillerman Library. Selected other branches, including San Pedro and South Valley, can receive requested packets for pickup.
Use the Seed Catalog Request Form and the current inventory rather than phoning in a request. Staff notify borrowers when packets are ready. Availability changes as seeds are distributed or added, so an older list does not establish that a particular variety is still in stock.
Packet labels include sun and water needs and growing instructions. Start with a small number you can follow carefully, noting when you sow and what conditions they receive. The library also offers gardening programs. After a successful harvest, participants are encouraged to share or save seeds, making the first packet part of a longer community exchange.
